Examination & Diagnosis
Routine oral health checks to detect and diagnose potential health issues.
Routine oral health checks and preventive care are highly recommended to detect and diagnose potential health issues in the early stages when they are preventable or easily treatable. At Westbrook Family Dental, your Toowoomba dentist, prevention and early intervention form the cornerstone’s of our treatment philosophy.
Oral examination is used to diagnose oral diseases and assess health risk status of each individual. Teeth are not the only focus of an oral health examination, which also include:
- Soft tissues inside and outside of the mouth
Dental examinations can diagnose a range of issues such as:
- Decay and tooth wear
- Gum disease
- Orthodontic or functional concerns
- Jaw and joint pathology
- Oral cancer and other soft tissue pathology
- Anatomical anomalies such as clefts, lip and tongue ties.
For these reasons we believe regular oral examinations are essential to maintaining general health and well-being.
Examination is performed with feel and sight. As many areas and structures (such as between the teeth, under existing fillings and bony areas) are not easily visible to the clinician, they may recommended x-rays to more easily visualise these areas and offer a comprehensive assessment.
Undiagnosed oral pathology can pose significant risks to your general health and well-being. For each person, our dental professional will carefully assess the risk and benefit of radiographic examination and make their recommendations accordingly.
At Westbrook Family Dental, we have the latest technology in digital xrays and follow Australian guidelines to ensure we gain the maximum health benefits of radiographic examinations while minimising the risks to you and your family.
At your examination, we will determine your risk status for oral disease and recommend a recall interval best suited to you. For the majority of our clients, attendance for a dental examination every 6-12 months is recommended.
At Westbrook Family Dental, every new patient is entitled to CAP the GAP offer ($ 99 only if they have private dental cover) or $199 only for the cost of their first examination (including xrays if required), clean and Fluoride treatment.
